The Westminster status
According to popular belief, the First and Second World Wars were fought for the redistribution, mostly colonial, of the world. The main idea was that the so-called “young” capitalist states, which were late for the distribution of the world, wanted colonies, and the old metropolises wanted to preserve the status quo, i.e. their colonial possessions.
The Westminster status was adopted in Britain in 1931 (December 11). According to it, British dominions were given sovereign rights. Thus, after the creation of the Dominions, Britain took its next big step toward voluntarily, without struggle, renouncing its colonial possessions.
The other old metropolises, such as France, Spain and others, were no exception, as they gave up their colonies and protectorates without much resistance.
The question is why were then the two world wars fought in the twentieth century at all? There is some kind of absurdity here…
