On the Eastern Front
On February 28, 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was received at the White House by the new U.S. President, Donald Trump. The meeting was quite turbulent. Both Trump and his Vice President, J.D. Vance, along with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, attacked Zelensky aggressively. The meeting ended with Zelensky dramatically leaving the Oval Office. Some observers believe he was simply expelled like a misbehaving schoolboy. It’s a matter of interpretation.
Immediately, self-proclaimed “experts” mocked the fiasco as Ukraine “shooting itself in the foot,” failing to grasp the bigger picture. However, it must be understood that the events surrounding the war in Ukraine far exceed the scope of this local conflict.
Regardless of personal biases, one must acknowledge that despite relentless American pressure, Zelensky demonstrated something rare today – DIGNITY – even in his desperate situation. True, the very next day, under pressure from both his own people and foreign allies, Zelensky backtracked, metaphorically fell to his knees, and began pleading for forgiveness.
But the fact remains: the Americans realized they cannot just throw their weight around and expect unconditional compliance. After all, they are dealing with Slavs. Even though Zelensky is of Jewish descent, he was raised in a Slavic environment. The vulgar Russian curse he muttered upon leaving the Oval Office speaks volumes about his mindset. Unfortunately, the Americans had to learn this the hard way. While J.D. Vance and Marco Rubio may not understand this, Trump—who has spent years married to Slavic women—should have known better. And yet, he is about to start working with Vladimir Putin!?
It is unfortunate that dignity is a quality rarely found in today’s political elite, especially in the West. Western leaders meekly accepted the humiliating criticism from the U.S. Vice President at the Munich Security Conference on February 14, 2025.
But this is only one layer of the complex political game. It must be understood that:
1. Zelensky opposed an arrogant ultimatum to defend his country’s interests—how many would have the courage to do that?
2. He refused to surrender easily, likely not just for national interests but also for his own survival. Reports suggest the Americans have already written him off, advising him to seek refuge in Paris (Elon Musk), while also announcing a full audit of how Kyiv has spent U.S. funds.
“It’s time to find out what really happened to the hundreds of billions of dollars sent to Ukraine,” (Elon Musk).
There’s another question: where did Zelensky get such courage? Some dismiss him as a “cocaine clown” (Dmitry Medvedev) or simply as a clown (Donald Trump), but that alone doesn’t define him. His ethnic background may be a factor. It is well known that the so-called “deep state” is significantly influenced by a powerful Jewish lobby, not just in the U.S. Could he have been emboldened by this connection? Trump’s circle is actively working to weaken this influence. The question is: who will prevail?
The audit the Americans are planning may also affect Europe. But lately, who even considers Europe relevant? Especially given the U.S.’s visible cooling toward it. Munich made that clear.
European leaders continue their unwavering support for Ukraine against the so-called “aggressor,” but fewer people believe this narrative anymore. “Russia does not want to invade Western Europe. This alleged threat is a fantasy created by the U.S. military-industrial complex.” (The Guardian).
Nonetheless, on February 24, 2025, to mark the third anniversary of the war, Western nations—led by Ursula von der Leyen—announced significant support for Ukraine. The EU pledged €3.5 billion by March. Individual NATO and EU members also made commitments:
- Spain: €1 billion
- UK: £4.5 billion
- Norway: €3.5 billion
- Canada: 25 armored vehicles, four F-16 simulators, ammunition, and $5 billion
Smaller NATO members contributed lesser amounts. But given the costly high-tech war in the East, these are mere crumbs. What can be done? Powerlessness is rarely born with reason, especially when it is subject to atrophied revanchism.
The EU’s desperate insistence on supporting Ukraine seems bizarre in light of military reports from the Eastern Front, which indicate an impending Russian victory. The real question isn’t where this money will come from, but rather—will it be grants or loans? Given past practices, it’s likely loans. This means the dirty business will continue until the very end.
But do these Euro-Atlanticists realize what they are doing? If Ukraine loses, it will be treated as a defeated country. Despite hopes for peace, the Russian war machine moves forward relentlessly. And thanks to the shortsighted policies of Brussels, the EU risks never recovering its money. Defeated nations pay their conquerors first, and only then, if anything is left, their donors.
Unlike Europe, the U.S. has a strategy to escape its losing position. The Americans aim not just to mediate but to control the negotiations—to extract maximum benefit. Trump made it clear: “We need to take care of our money.” And in this strategy, there is no room for either Ukraine or the collective West.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Macron and Keir Starmer are desperately trying to appear relevant (Paris meetings on February 17 and 19, and a London gathering on March 2, 2025). They pretend to have a strategy for ending the war—which they helped start in the first place. But to their dismay, Europe is not included in the key negotiations—a major blow to their egos and EU interests.
In politics, nothing is random. Trump demands that Europe spend 5% of its GDP on defense. Macron and Starmer play games, optimistically projecting 3-3.5% “someday in the future.” Meanwhile, their alleged aggressor, Russia, spends 10%. Their bravery extends only to desperately begging the U.S. for security guarantees. Everyone saves themselves as best they can.
The Americans understand that Russia will not simply stop the war for goodwill or a pat on the back, as they once tricked Mikhail Gorbachev into doing. Moscow will demand hefty reparations. And someone will have to pay. Defeated nations pay first. The EU’s reckless persistence is placing it on the losing side. And Putin will not let them escape unscathed.
The so-called collective West seems blind to new geopolitical realities. The world order is undergoing a fundamental realignment, much like after World War II, dividing spheres of influence. Trump and J.D. Vance openly discuss the need for a “multipolar world.” (The Guardian).
In what sphere will those countries fall that America shows no interest in?
But in general, however, a new, even more violent repainting is expected.
What can be done?! When living with wolves, howl like a wolf.
A difficult, difficult life… Especially for the political sheep flock.
