And English politics
England has always sought strong partners in its geopolitical activities. Equipped with such partners, the country acted swiftly, uncompromisingly and efficiently. Deprived of such factors, it withdrew from the struggle. The events typical of the first case are those connected with the struggle against Napoleon. The second case might be considered to be the struggle of the North American colonies for independence.
Equipped with a powerful ally, Margaret Thatcher’s England acted decisively and categorically against Argentina during the Falkland crisis. This determination was backed up by the United States, who supported the British, turning their backs on another ally, Argentina.
In the pre-World War I era, Britain chose its own allies and, as a rule, played a dominant role in determining peace conditions. After World War I, Britain continued to choose its allies, but was no longer able to play a leading role. And after World War II, it finally moved into a passive, subordinate position, becoming an American appendage.
